50-grit sandpaper is perfect for quickly and efficiently removing heavy paint or varnish build-up from rough surfaces such as wood due to its very coarse and abrasive nature.
80-grit sandpaper is commonly used to prepare slightly rough surfaces, like bare wood or painted surfaces, for a finer sanding by sanding down rough surfaces. It is also ideal for removing small imperfections and smoothing out rough edges.
120-grit sandpaper is a fine-grit sandpaper that is used for sanding down surfaces that have already been smoothed out by a coarser sandpaper. It is typically used on surfaces that are already smooth, such as wood that has been sanded with an 80-grit paper. It’s fine abrasive nature is ideal for removing any remaining scratches or imperfections, and preparing the surface for finishing.
